Normally Shine would be gearing up to see 350 children back at our Early Years centers across the area were children receive a hot bowl of porridge and fruit, health checks and a time of fun and learning with friends. Sadly due to school closures, we do not know when we will see the children next nor do we know how they will survive. Malawi has plans to go into lockdown over the coming week but households will have very little to sustain them. With many led by elderly grandmas or older siblings, they depend on Shine’s support which they can no longer access.
Working with the DC Office we aim to support vulnerable families in the community with supplies whilst ensuring the best care is given to our residents at Shine Village during these difficult times.
Wash stations
We will first support the local community with hygiene items and key health advice. Families in our area are unable to buy soap and as they share pit latrines and water pumps they are at risk of spreading COVID 19. The outreach will impact approx 250 vulnerable people living in villages local to Shine Village. With no safety nets or food banks, this support is an important first step needed to help families living hand to mouth.
The project area includes homes belonging to staff and families who attend our Early Years and Afterschool programmes.
Provide a recommended handwashing station and vital up to date information for £10
Supporters in NZ/Australia/USA can also help : the cost is 21$NZ / 20AUS$/ 12US$ per station
*each wash station price includes all operational costs and key household sensitisation needed.
**As information is disseminated in English it is key to clarify in Chichewa to stop misinformation and confusion
Please join us in praying for our dear friends in Malawi –
The Lord be with you at the break of dawn
“Then your light will break forth like the dawn, and your healing will quickly appear; then your righteousness will go before you, and the glory of the Lord will be your rear guard.”
