Why £5,500 in 183 days?
Current situation in Malawi
Malawi Vulnerability Assessment Committee (MVAC) projected that 3.8 million people in 27 districts and four cities of the country will be food insecure during the 2022/23 lean season, specifically, from November 2022 to March 2023.
SRT Response is to provide “lean period help” to our current beneficiaries – 120 Early Years children and their families, vulnerable families headed by children and elderly and infirm care givers. The students on Shine bursary and their families will also be supported as funds allow. Local pastors who meet weekly for fellowship at Shine Village would also appreciate food items for the needy in their villages.
Current prices for food and fuel have increased by 75% meaning most people can not afford to shop and rely only on what they grow. Following cyclones and floods of January and March people did not harvest enough. Your fundraising will provide food parcels containing maize, sugar, salt oil to cook vegetables grown and laundry soap this Christmas. Events taking place in 2023 in March and June will support our residential costs ensuring we can offer places to children already identified living in desperate need.
The team have set 183 days and a plan to help raise our first target of £5,500.
Based 32 people raising just £1 a day for 183 days this can be easily achieved and will go a long way to support the work of Shines essential programs at Shine Village reaching communities with Gods love and welcoming more vulnerable children. £7 a week equates to £28 a month and £168 by June 2023. As the word spreads and ideas are shared we believe that much more can be raised leading up to our celebration on the longest day in June we could be looking at not only covering our increasing costs in Malawi and our Christmas outreach but our new Children’s home costs too. We just need YOU to help start this !
“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, ‘Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?’ Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”
