Let Your Light Shine 183

Shine Maize Mill est. January 2022 in memory of Joseph Kuria-Waithaka

During December in the UK we experience the “longest night” on the 21st December, its then 183 days until we reach the “longest day” were we enjoy daylight for 16 hours and 43 minutes! Shine Relief is all about the light Christ and the awesome way he uses us to reflect that light -we shine the glory of God to the world around us.

Salt and Light
…Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a basket. Instead, they set it on a stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, ‘Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?’ Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”
― Marianne Williamson, A Return to Love: Reflections on the Principles of “A Course in Miracles”

The team have set 183 days and a plan to help raise our first target of £5,500.

Based 32 people raising just £1 a day for 183 days this can be easily achieved and will go a long way to support the work of Shines essential programs at Shine Village reaching communities with Gods love and welcoming more vulnerable children.  £7 a week equates to £28 a month and £168 by June 2023.  As the word spreads and ideas are shared we believe that much more can be raised leading up to our celebration on the longest day in June we could be looking at not only covering our increasing costs in Malawi and our Christmas outreach but our new Children’s home costs too. We just need 32 people to start this !!!

Come an be inspired at Shine’s Supper event on 9th December at Jubilee Church Hull. It will be a place to hear about our work and the journey so far. Follow the link for more details and to book.

Shines first walk is the first since 2019 and is set to take place on the 21st December. It will be full on Christmas costumes! with a treasure hunt, prizes, a train rideback to Hull and city centre drinks at HOH. This event will be a great launch pad for our fundraising journey as we enjoy “the season of good will to all” and the joy of Christmas festivities together. We look forward to standing out and creating awareness of Shines work in the darkness of the longest night, putting a smile on faces and hope into hearts.

The walk will go out live on Facebook!

Current situation in Malawi

Malawi Vulnerability Assessment Committee (MVAC) projected that 3.8 million people in 27 districts and four cities of the country will be food insecure during the 2022/23 lean season, specifically, from November 2022 to March 2023.

SRT Response is to provide “lean period help” to our current beneficiaries – 120 Early Years children and their families, vulnerable families headed by children and elderly and infirm care givers. The students on Shine bursary and their families will also be supported as funds allow. Local pastors who meet weekly for fellowship at Shine Village would also appreciate food items for the needy in their villages.

Current prices for food and fuel have increased. Most people can not afford to shop and rely on what they grow. Following cyclones and floods of January and March people did not harvest enough. Your fundraising with provide food parcels containing maize, sugar, salt oil to cook vegetables grown and laundry soap this Christmas.

Please sign up for the walk by completing and returning a registration form available from Jubilee Church or download here.
