This year’s walk will cross Kilnsea Wetlands (9 Mile route) towards Spurn lighthouse. The routes cover varied terrain, including gravel paths, public footpaths, minor country roads, crossing the sandy / pebbled beach across the wash matching the distance a child in Malawi may walk to school or a mother may walk carrying her child to a clinic.
This is an 6 or 9 mile circular walk includes beach walking and exposed areas through YWT nature reserve ** a narrow sand tidal island that reaches into the North sea and forms the bank of the mouth of the Humber Estuary. This walk explores the splendid Spurn Point National Nature Reserve on the tip of the coast of the East Riding of Yorkshire. There’s much to enjoy with pretty beaches, sand-dunes, marshland and the striking effects of the changing tides.
Spurn is located c.30 miles east of Hull. From Easington follow the B1445 to Kilnsea. From the village of Kilnsea continue until you will find the Blue Bell Café on your left.
Register – please complete and return an entry form to deborah@shine-relief.org or via Whatsapp. You will receiving a confirmation upon receipt of your entry. Fees can be paid on the day. If a form has not been received you will not be able to join the walk unless fees have been received. Payment is through bank transfer, Paypal via our website or through Total Giving. Please state “walk fees” as the reference and indicate the number of places. You will receive a reusable wrist band on the day and a certificate. Fees are non-refundable or transferrable.
If you wish to climb the 128ft lighthouse – the tallest in Northern England there is a separate fee and conditions apply
Bring water proofs, wear sturdy shoes and carry all you need in a back pack – there will be a first aider however you should always be prepared in the event of falls, insect stings, high winds, rain and bright sunshine etc . There will be water and fruit will be provided on route.



Walk duration is approximately 2-3 and 3-4 hours walking at a comfortable pace and includes one 15/20 min stop at the lighthouse.
Meeting 9am for 9 mile start at 9:30am at Kilnsea Wetlands carpark HU12 0UD and 9:30am for 6 mile start at 10am start at Spurn Discovery centre (4 minutes further down the road)
NB: Transport to the walk is not provided. There is a bus however we recommend you find a car share. The journey is approx 30 miles /50 minutes from Hull and £5 carpark fee applies at the Discovery Centre so you may wish to park on the roadside if available.

Registration and walk briefing (are you prepared?)
9:30am the 9 mile walk commences and will follow the wetlands to join the King Charles III England Coast path for 1 hour 45minutes to reach the lighthouse. 10am the 6 mile walk commences from the Spurn Discovery Centre for an hours walk to the lighthouse.
20 mins for picnic lunch (NB There will be tea n cake served in Patrington at 2pm for those wishing to join the Shine Trip presentation)
Return via the same route to the different carparks


Walk Terms and Conditions By submitting your application form/paying entry fee for this Shine charity event you hereby confirm you understand and agree to abide by the following terms and conditions:
- Entries should be made on a Shine Relief Trust (SRT) Charity registration form before the day.
- A parent or guardian aged over 18 must sign on behalf of all members of their party and give full emergency contact details.
- A non-refundable, non-transferable registration fee of £6/£3 is paid at the time of entering. Cashing your cheque/ receiving electronic cash transfer signifies entry into the event.
- The Kilnsea to Spurn Lighthouse Walk is fundraising event in aid of SRT. Each participant should raise a minimum of £20 in sponsorship. Setting up a page is free at Shine Relief Trust – TotalGiving™ – Donate to Charity | Online Fundraising for Charity UK *
- Participation on the day requires evidence of a personal Total Giving fundraising page.
- On the day entry will only be permitted if there is space and a registration form is completed. The cost will be £20.
- Offline sponsorship can be collected using sponsor forms. Participants are encouraged to collect funds raised promptly following the event and send to SRT within 4 weeks of the event. We do not accept cash so please return your sponsor form with a cheque. BACS transfers can be made using your name as reference and scanned sponsor forms can be returned by e-mail.
- SRT reserves the right to alter, postpone or cancel the event where it becomes necessary because of circumstances beyond Shine Relief Trust’s reasonable control. If the event is postponed or cancelled, participants shall be entitled to defer their entry to the re-scheduled event or (subject to availability) transfer to an alternative SRT fundraising event.
- All participants need a reasonable level of fitness to complete this event. If you are unsure as to your suitability to enter you should seek medical advice prior to taking part. You take part at your own risk. It is your responsibility during the event to maintain a level of safety which promotes your wellbeing and that of your fellow participants.
- You must also notify SRT of any condition which makes you unfit to participate during the event.
- SRT accepts no liability for any injury sustained by any participant, save where such injury is caused by the negligence of SRT. SRT accepts no liability whatsoever for any loss of or damage to a participant’s property which may occur during this event.
- SRT reserves the right to refuse any entry. Shine Relief Trust’s decision shall be final.
- All participants must read the Walk Outline and follow guideline regarding clothing and footwear which is safe and appropriate to the event. The route is not suitable for pushchairs.
- Participants must make their own transport arrangements to the event There is no transport through SRT other than during the event in an emergency.
- Whilst participating in the event all participants must always behave appropriately and do nothing which might adversely affect the reputation of SRT or bring the charity into disrepute. Participants must comply with instructions from the event supervisors and take reasonable care of their own health and safety and that of other participants.
- Images may be taken during the event and may be used on our website and in promotional material in any medium. By taking part in the event or attending the event you are deemed to have given your consent, unless you notify SRT of any express objections. In the event that you raise any objections to the use of any image in which you are featured after the event SRT will remove that image from its website, but cannot undertake to remove from circulation any printed materials already in use. SRT acknowledges its responsibilities towards children and younger people and will, wherever possible and practicable, refrain from capturing or using their images.
- By including your details you are consenting for us to use them for the purpose of this event.
